Have you ever prayed for death rather than life? - Lynn R.

When we feel like we’re at the end of our rope- questions can relentlessly plague us.  Lynn experiences this asking- “What had I done to cause this? How could I hope in God as I saw her suffering, my other kids’ hearts breaking, my ability to cope disappearing?”  Listen to how Hope weaved His way into her story as she is able to say, “I still have fear pop up. But I cry out to the Lord in my mind, aloud, or face down on the floor and ask Jesus to carry this burden for me. He is willing to carry all my burdens, and I have hope for today.”

Reflection Questions

What can you relate to?

As you consider your own life, which part of Lynn’s story seems to reach out for your hand and remind you that you’re not alone?

Consider the phrases, “How can I hope in God when I saw her suffering” or “I felt abandoned."

Do you see yourself in these statements?

What promises can you anchor to?

What is one truth or hope that you can grab ahold of from Lynn’s story and take back into your own life as you seek hope and healing this week? Consider this powerful moment in Lynn’s story, “But I cry out to the Lord in my mind, aloud, or face down on the floor and ask Jesus to carry this burden for me. He is willing to carry all my burdens, and I have hope for today.

Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, as my friend takes in these words, free her heart from sadness, anger, fear, anguish. Remind her in the days ahead, she is not alone. Lord, breathe new hope into her and help her to rest in You. Remind her you are present, you are FOR her, you are the source of all goodness and hope. You are peace. In your name I pray, Amen.
